In this immersive installation, entitled Disco Death, Mikaela Given looks to juxtapose themes of life and death, good and evil, nihilism and optimism. In times of economic destruction, why do people party harder? How does one cope with the duality of all the pleasures of life existing simultaneously with the depravity? As a 20 something living “the best years of their life” and struggling with depression at the same time, Mikaela seeks to start an introspection on these philosophical themes. The viewer is invited to sit in silence, face the noose, and watch the lights of disco balls bounce off the walls as you think about the duality of human existence.
