Mikaela Given is a multimedia artist from central New Jersey. Their work focuses on exploring the physical act of making and the process of learning as well as the impact of the final piece. She looks to communicate with the world by expressing herself  and her life experiences conceptually through any art medium that calls her attention to explore.

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” As she creates her body of work, Mikaela looks to this line as a guideline for her practice, never focusing on a single technique, but learning anything and everything. Gaining inspiration from pop culture media, philosophical theories, other artists, and her own art and memories, Mikaela takes all these concepts as a form of representing herself and who she is through her ideas and what she creates. When looking at her influences, she works to strengthen the concept first, and then the medium forms itself following that. Whether choosing sculpture, installation, painting, or any sort of unconventional medium or materials, the form chosen to exemplify their artistic intention is one that allows the concept to have the most impact.

As an artist, she hopes to continue creating as a means for self expression and a reflection of the life she has lived so far. In doing so, she interacts with the viewer in a deeply personal way that they may find those same thoughts reflected in themselves. At its core, she explores herself and the world to come to an answer to who she is and her role in the universe.
